“I don’t dislike anything about Nanhi”: Jayashree V
We in conversation with Jayashree Venketaramanan about her role as Nanhi…
You are back on TV as Nanhi in Colors’ Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha Season 2. How does it feel?
It feels great to be part of a Colors show. My producers Sudhir Sharma and Seema Ma’am for believing in me. They could have taken anyone else because Ashnoor Kaur who was playing Nanhi earlier has got a lot of appreciation from the audience and won an award for the role too this year.
So when this importunity came and I was asked to audition for this I was really tense because it was a bag full of responsibilities as I had heard that Ashnoor was extremely good and people love her. I didn’t know about the challenges which started after the shoot, because people were trying to compare me with Ashnoor. Some didn’t even accept me when the news came out about me playing the role of Nanhi. However I have to thank my producer and director for shaping the character so beautifully. So far it has been a great experience and it is a huge opportunity and responsibility and I am loving every step of it.
You are portraying the role Nanhi. How different is Nanhi from Jayashree?
She is very similar. The difference would be in terms of dressing sense I guess. She wears kurti and dhoti all the time and is a no nonsense girl. She doesn’t really care about what she is wearing but as Jayashree I care a lot about how I am dressed. Apart from that Nanhi and I am very similar in real life, extremely bindaas and ready to speak out my heart. There are more similarities than differences.
How is the atmosphere on the sets of the show?
It is a very family ike atmosphere on the sets. I started shooting from mid-December and now it has almost been two months. It never felt like I am a new person and everybody has been extremely warm and have accepted me as a part of their family. I believe that this is a very rare thing to happen as it is not that easy to accept someone in a character you have loved in the previous season. The acceptance meant a lot.
I share a very good bond with Aakansha who is playing the role of my mother, and the rest of the actors, Kunal Karan Kapoor, Dushyant Wagh and Siddharth Arora too. I am extremely friendly with all of them and they are all great to work with. Whenever I shoot with Siddharth we have a house on fire. We are extremely helpful to each other.
Everybody is very good at what they do so the sense of competition is less. There is competition but it is less as everybody wants you to perform well and not pull you down. The team is very encouraging which makes the atmosphere easy to handle.
One thing you like and dislike about your character Nanhi?
I don’t dislike anything about Nanhi. I love every thing about her. She is a very interesting girl and I think there are very few girls like her who go out of their way to support their family. I would rather say that girls who are like this and have a stand of their own, go a very long way in their life and career. Nanhi is someone who knows how to balance her work and family. Her mother is her priority, someone who she will do everything for and she is very committed towards her work. Anything I’ll speak about Nanhi as character is good, there is nothing I dislike about the character.
What developments of Nanhi can viewers expect to see in the show?
I think there will only be a development if she falls in love, I don’t think Nanhi can ever fall in love. She is very focused when it comes to family and work and I don’t think she has anytime for love. However if she does fall in love that would be a moment to watch out for.
You are seen playing the daughter of Aakansha Singh aka Megha in the show, but in reality your are older than her?
Everybody makes fun of it. Outside the show I behave like her elder sister and on set she behaves like my mother. Even off screen she behaves like my mother so there are no differences. Even if I try to behave like someone older, she doesn’t let me.
Your favourite show on TV at the moment?
There is a show called Big Bang Theory, I love
watching it.
You are said to be in a relationship, tell us a bit about it?
I am already blushing Yes I am in a relationship with Prateek Shah. It has been a year and half now. He was a second unit director of my previous show and I think off screen I am a very romantic girl and not to forget he is a very passionate guy both work and relationship wise. So I guess love had to happen and it did.
