The young, energetic and handsome actor Varun Khandelwal, who can be currently seen in two shows viz Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus and Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki on Life OK, plays two diametrically opposite characters.

While in Diya Aur Baati Hum he enacts a loving and caring brother, in the later he essays the role of a deceiving husband.

In a candid interview with us, Varun unwinds his journey.

“Well, I hail from Lucknow. Later on, I came over to Mumbai and joined a college here to pursue a course in travel and tourism. As I was interested, I used to do modeling in college and also wrote for plays and acted in them. Somewhere, through some of my friends and well wishers, I got a call from Balaji Telefilms and got a chance to star in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. But, I became famous essaying the role of Jyoti’s brother Deepu in Jyoti on Imagine; in fact I am still remembered by the name.”

Continues…Varun, “People and fans still remember me for the character I played and I feel delighted seeing the response. I hope Jyoti too comes back and I am called to be a part of the project. Talking about Diya Aur Baati Hum, I am very much in love with the role. Everyone like Anas Rashid, Deepika Singh are truly amazing in the show; there’s so much new to offer. Well, talking about the current scenario, I would say that things have indeed changed. Seven years ago, we never had something like look test that we have nowadays. It has so happened at times when I have faced rejections as the production people are always on the lookout for a new face. On that, I have no issues; we need to change with time but I am adapting with the change that’s happening in the industry. I have a wish and that is to do roles like Paresh Rawal. He is an icon and so is Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Though he has been in this industry for years, Nawazuddin got recognition lately with Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur. Well I believe that roles should make a benchmark for oneself. For example the one I did in Jyoti was a landmark role for me.”

Talking about his personal life, he shares, “I love to watch movies but not necessarily of any particular kind. I love watching films of all genres. I also love traveling a lot and wish to travel all over the world. I am quite an adventurous person. I have ridden a bullet from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar and back. I love riding and driving.”

He finally ends by stating, “Coming to films, I definitely would like to direct a film or a show one day. That’s been my dream as I told you I used to direct plays during my college days. I am yet single and marriage is not on the cards. I am actually married to my work (laughs)”
