I want to better my work in the days to come – Karam Rajpal aka Sameer of Nadaan Parinde

Karam Rajpal simply loves essaying Sameer in Life OK’s Nadaan Parinde, as he is very much like the boy in his real life. However, the young lad looks forward to the change in characterization that Sameer will go on to have in the future episodes.

Says Karam, “As of now, I am very similar to what Sameer is. But there are quite a lot of twists coming ahead, which will change the man. I need to put in more efforts to bring in the changes in Sameer. As of now, we are working on the change in body language and looks that the character will go through in the near future. Honestly speaking, that will be a bigger challenge for me.”

For Karam, who came into limelight in the role of Maddy in Suvreen Guggal, Nadaan Parinde, produced by Imtiaz Punjabi and Chokkas Bhaardwaj is a life-changer in itself. “I have had to go through a lot of physical training to fit the role. In fact, when I was selected for the role, I was asked to build on my body. After two months, when we were ready to go on floor, I was told that I looked too huge and I had to trim myself down (smiles). And now, I need to build on my body yet again for the transformation in the character.”

So how do you keep yourself fit? “Well, we have no problem, as the Producers have set a gym in the accommodation that we live in. So whenever we have an off day, we see to it that we hit the gym. Even after our pack-up, we work out as we have a gym at our house now. All facilities like cardio, cycling etc have been provided.”

For the actor, Chandigarh (place of shoot) is his second home. “Being from Ludhiana, I don’t feel like being away from my home town. Whenever I have a half day or and off, I see to it that I go to Ludhiana to be with my family. This way, I feel very close to my dear ones.”

Karam has not been part of the saas-bahu genre, and has consciously avoided such shows. “In today’s time, it is very difficult to get a male-oriented show on TV. I think after Sameer Soni played the protagonist in Parichay, this is the next show that centres around the man. I am glad to be part of such a concept. Also, when I was portraying Maddy in Suvreen Guggal, I never thought I would get a character like that ever. However, when I got to play Sameer, I saw a resemblance of Maddy in Sameer. And when I got into the skin of Sameer, I found him to be more than what Maddy was (laughs).”

Karam who essayed the central role in Life OK’s Rakshak felt a bit disappointed when the series was reduced to only few episodes owing to certain issues. “Yes, I can say that those disappointments are wiped off with Sameer coming into the picture. Life is going fine and I am happy playing Sameer.”

The guy has shot for some daring and outrageous scenes for Nadaan Parinde. While he has fallen out of an Activa when he was seated, he has also fallen on a thorny plant in a running sequence wherein nearly 150 thorns had pierced his body. Talking about such incidents, he avers, “Well, there is always a brush with accidents, giving the kind of stunts I need to do in the role. I have got hurt many a times, but all is part and parcel of acting. The toughest of them all was the scene wherein I had to shoot amidst a real honey bee hive. I was asked not to react even if the bee sits on my face, shoulder or hand. And I did exactly how I was asked to (laughs).”

Karam narrates about a certain challenge that his Producer Imtiaz Punjabi had thrown on him before the start of the show. “Imtiaz Sir wanted me to never use glycerin to bring out tears for my scenes. And I took up the challenge and I have successfully kept away from using the glycerin bottle till now.”

On the learning curve he has managed to get from his Producer, Karam explains, “Imtiaz Sir is the one who has created the character of Sameer. And nobody other than him has the best knowledge of the character. I am thankful to him for making me understand the character. Imtiaz sir along with our other director Khazan Panesar have worked a lot on me, and if I am showing a perfection in my scenes, it is because of them.”

On an ending note, the actor states, “I am getting a very good response for the show. And I want to better my work in the days to come.”

Karam, we wish you all the best!!
