Saraswatichandra 30th July 2013 Written Episode

The Episode starts with Saras getting wounded by the glass. Kumud gets tensed. Pramad’s mum asks her to bring the first aid. Saras says no need, this wound is deeper, he leaves from there and comes outside the house. He thinks of Kumud’d wound and her words. He says why is Kumud going through this injustice. Saras sees someone stuck with his bullock cart in dirty water. Saras says I m responsible for your state Kumud, you won’t bear the pain alone. Saras with his wounded hands lifts the bullock cart alone without anyone’s help. People see him and says why did you lift it alone, why did you hurt yourself. Saras sees the blood on his hands and says I feel peaceful with this wound, this is nothing infront of Kumud’s pain.

Saras faces Pramad at night. Pramad says why are you staring, look down, you are our slave.Saras looks into his eyes and thinks about Kumud’s words. Saras looks down, Pramad says stay in your limits and offers him wine. Kumud thinks what Saras wants to show, that he gets hurt seeing me in pain, now I don’t care because nothing is related with you. She turns and sees Saras. He says Kumud…. don’t worry. I know your door is closed for me forever and I don’t have any right on you. I know you won’t take my help, but you need my help, I won’t go from here, till you say everyone about the truth of your marriage to everyone. I will make you say it to everyone even if you don’t wish. Kumud says what truth, and who are you to do this. Saras says you are right, I m no one but how you got this wound, what happened yesterday night, you will tell everyone, will you say it or not. Kumud says no, I won’t say. Saras promises that before tomorrow’s sunset, he will make her tell the truth infront of everyone. Kumud says don’t try to do this, because you won’t be able to do it. They look at each other. Saras says I have to do this and leaves.

Kumud sees her wound in the mirror and touches it. She questions herself where is that Kumud, who always spoke the truth, but now she is lying to herself. Kumud says Pramad did not do anything, I fell by mistake and I got wounded. She cries.

The next morning, Kusum says I m going to call Didi today, do you have anything to say. Guniyal says don’t tell her that Saras came back. Kusum says I won’t say, and I think Didi has forgot everything. Sunny comes there and says I did not come to say sorry, I need your help to search him. After knowing the truth, if you anger vanished, so please do this for him, I don’t know where he is, he is not in Dubai, so it means he is here, and you can help me. Guniyal agrees and gives Aarti to Sunny. Kusum says what can we do, say. Sunny says I have asked everyone, and did a police complaint also, but did not get him. Kusum says I will ask our villagers. Sunny thanks her for caring for Saras. Kusum says he has hurt my Didi, he won’t be in peace.

Saras is doing his meditation in his room. He thinks of Pramad and Kumud’s wound and gets angry. He thinks of Kumud’s hurting words. He says I would have gone Kumud, but I can’t leave you in this state. Till you say the truth to everyone, I will stay here. He gets up and goes outside. He bumps into Kalika. (Name changed from Kanika) She flirts with him, he asks her to move away and give way to him. Kalika does not listen to him. He warns her of his anger and asks her to go and complain to Pramad, he will see what he does. Saras leaves. Kalika gets a slap on her face by his words. Saras comes for dining with everyone. Budhidhan asks Saras how is his wound, Saras says its better than before. Budhidhan says he is happy that Saras came on time, you are becoming like our family. Kumud comes there with her ghunghat on. Saras talks with Budhidhan and Alak. Alak says they are initiating a program for women. Saras says its good you care for women, but why does your bahu always stay with ghunghat on.
Everyone look at Kumud.

Alak asks Kumud why she is donning the ghunghat. Saras waits for her reply. Pramad’s mum says you can be yourself here in this house and feel free. Alak says you can even take your decisions yourself. You don’t have any restrictions. Kumud says I kept a Vrath for Pramad and she will keep the Vrath for more four weeks, so I will keep the ghunghat today. Alak says you have become a good daughter in law for my mum, she will be happy seeing you. Saras looks at Kumud and says I forgot my medicines, I will just come. Kumud comes to her room and gets a call from Kusum. Kusum jokes with her, Kumud says Pramad asks about you all often. Kusum asks her about Pramad and his drinking habit, Vidyachatur heard it somewhere, she asks is it true. Kumud is stunned and does not reply.

Precap:
Saras says Kumud that you got wounded yesterday, do the first aid else you will catch an infection. Pramad’s mum gets shocked and asks Kumud where is the wound.

The saas-bahu sagas, which have long ruled the popularity charts on TV, are making way for literary adaptations. Get hooked and booked like never before

Once upon a time, serials like Malgudi Days, Byomkesh Bakshi and Tamas topped popularity charts with their well-etched characters, gripping storylines and high-quality acting. It’s not a coincidence that all of them were adapted from well-known literary works.

Now, after a decade when saas-bahu soaps ruled the TRPs, literary adaptations are making a comeback on TV. Shows like Saraswatichandra, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah are already on air, while the soon-to-be-telecastMalikaa is derived from a novel.

Producer and creative director Rishab Seth, who is basing his project, Malikaa, on Indu Sundaresan’s book, The Twentieth Wife, says, “I was always interested in making something based on the Mughal dynasty. I read the book last year, and thought it would make for a really good movie.” Coincidentally, the channel also chose to adapt the book. Everyone who’s part of the project was handed a copy of the book so that they could get their basics right. “We had to do more research and expand the story as there will be 32 episodes. We are trying to stay as authentic as possible. We have even based the costumes on miniature paintings from the Mughal dynasty,” said Rishab, adding that, “The trend of making soaps out of books has started late in India. We should have done this much earlier.”

Serials turning a new leaf
Karanvir Sharma, who plays the lead in the serial, has also read the book in between shooting and says it helped him get the nuances right. “I was in two minds whether I should read the book. Charu Shankar (the other lead) had read it before and motivated me to do the same,” he says.

Rohitashv Gour, who plays the lead in Lapataganj, had also read the book before he was approached for the show. “Whenever a script is related to a literary work, it becomes very easy for an actor as they can visualize the character. An author shows the journey of a character, complete with his look, social status, background. This is not the case for TV writers,” he says.

Asit Modi, who adapted the writings of columnist Tarak Mehta to make the hit soap Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah, says that books offer a variety of subjects. “Similar saas-bahu stories are passe. Writers are few and new content is needed, so adapting novels is a good move, especially as we have good literature.” He adds that there should be a purpose behind adapting a particular book. “Tarak Mehta’s books were very popular and I had read it in school. Dilip Joshi had also read it. But the serial is very different from the book. With prior permission from Tarakji, we have just kept the format same. There’s need to contemporize the setting,” Asit adds.

Tarak Mehta, on his part, says, “I feel good to see the popularity of the show. Initially I didn’t like it when much of the book was changed, but then I accepted it as it was necessary. Plus, book sales have gone up after the show went on air.”

Ekta Kapoor’s next, Mera Tera Rishta Purana, is based on Manju Kapoor’s Custody. “Once Ekta read the book and believed in it, she made sure it was turned into a soap,” says the show’s creative director, Vikas Gupta. “Officially, the rights of the book have been taken after a long process. The book was adapted because the characters have a lot of potential. It is fun to play with characters from books as you can visualize the story. It is easier to understand what you want to say, but it is an extremely difficult process to bring the characters alive on screen,” he adds.

But considering that the viewers’ know the story, how difficult is it to keep their interests alive in an age when TRPs rule the roost? “I have read Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings many times, but I still feel excited to see them on screen. In our case, we want to bring alive the story for those who might not have read the book. As for the twists and turns, we are free to change things as we have acquired the book’s rights. It takes two hours to finish a book and the content is not suited for daily soaps which runs up to 200 episodes. So you have to bring in different tracks to expand the story,” Vikas says.

Time to shut the book and switch on the TV?

‘SaraswatiChandra’ returns to top in UK

‘SaraswatiChandra’ returned to the top of the UK Asian TV ratings last night, according to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia.

‘SaraswatiChandra’ had the biggest audience with 186,100 viewers at 19:30 – peaking at 217,700 viewers, followed by ‘Veera’ with 177,300 viewers and ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ got 157,100 viewers.

The others in the pecking order were ‘Meri Bhabhi’ (132,300), ‘Saathiya’ (122,600), ‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ (98,000), ‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai’ (94,200), ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ (84,200) and ‘Ek Ghar Banaunga’ (57,000).
