Ankita Sharma burns herself while enacting a fire sequence

The young and beautiful debutante Ankita Sharma, has been charming us with her stunning performance as a naïve village belle Lajjo in Zee TV’s primetime drama ‘Lajwanti’. Though new to the industry, it turns out that she is a thorough professional and quite a performer. She completely compliments the powerhouse, Sid Makkar and has taken the audiences by surprise. During one of the scenes which involved shooting in fire, she injured herself and burnt her shoulder.

The actress refused to use a body double for the sequence as she wanted the shot to be as authentic as everything else in the show!

The current track showcases riots in Lahore, when Sunderlal and Lajjo take shelter in their shop that is the whole and soul of the family. Sunderlal instructs Lajjo to stay safe inside the shop and leaves to file a complaint against the menace.

As she waits for Sunderlal to return, the mob sets fire to the shop. While Lajjo is trapped inside, she tries to douse the fire and save their shop, risking her life.

It turns out that the production had suggested the use of a body double as the scene was risky, but Ankita refused to do so and shot the scene herself. Ankita was in a velvet salwar suit and the intense heat generated by the fire caused a lot of discomfort and eventually lead to rashes all over her arms and she ended up burning herself on her shoulder!

Ankita shared, “This is the best phase of my life … I’m doing everything that Ive dreamt and love to do and I’m getting a lot of appreciation and love from the viewers. The plot now is recreating the partition era and utmost care is being taken to make it all authentic. We have shot in Kashmir and Punjab as well so that we maintain the authentic look and feel of the story. When I learnt about the fire sequence, I was adamant that I will do it myself and not use a body double. The production were hesitant, but I was convinced about it. We shot with all the necessary safety equipment but the heat inside the shop made me really uncomfortable. When the scene was shot I realized that I had developed rashes on my arms and even burnt myself on my shoulder. I was so involved in the scene that I did not feel any pain or burn while the shoot was on. The production immediately got some ice and rubbed it on my arms and shoulder and I was given medication. When I saw the output, I was thrilled and felt satisfied. If the scar remains, I’m going to call it a scar of achievement,” quips the brave actress.

Rajinder Singh Bedi Dwara Rachit Lajwanti’, is a turbulent love story, one of separation and a twist of circumstances that questions the sanctity of Lajwanti’s love and loyalty.
