Fear Files Written Update (2012/07/29) – Rape by a ghost!

A girl is shown sleeping in a hospital bed and the door opens eerily. Her sheet gets lifted up by something/someone and she jerks awake asking who is there. She is pushed down and her clothes are being lifted’it seems as if she is being raped by a ghost or something. The girl screams for her Mom to help; her parents rush into the room but are not able to help her’not even the doctors and other staff are able to go to her. The girl keeps screaming for help and bruise marks appears on her hands. She is suddenly lifted up off the bed.

The narrator introduces us to Vidya Naik, who is a doctor. She was born is Alleppey, Kerala and moved to Mumbai two years ago. She is the only child for her parents and is a Pediatrician. She was living a happy life until one night when a horrible incident took place while she was working. The incident took place almost one year ago when her aunt’s son, Shri, came to meet her all of a sudden one night.
The scene shifts to Vidya working and humming. It is raining heavily and the lights go out. Her window bursts open and her work goes flying to the ground. Vidya is picking up her papers when she gets a weird smell. She turns around and notices Shri. His face is injured and bloody and Vidya seems scared. She asks what he is going here. Shri replies in a weird voice that he can meet her anywhere, anytime and before this long journey it was necessary for him to say bye (or is it hi?? ). The windows open again and Vidya turns around to close them. When she turns back Shri is not there; her colleague is there. The colleague notices the papers on the ground and asks Vidya if she’s ok. She replies that she’s fine.
Vidya’s phone rings and it sounds like her mother who tells her to go to her aunt’s house asap. She reaches there and is shocked to see Shri’s dead body. Her aunt is mourning for him. She is informed by her mom that he committed suicide two hours before and she remembers that’s about the same time she saw him at the hospital. Her aunt sees her and starts berating her as to why she has come to see Shri’s dead body when she didn’t let him live in peace. She is told to leave and a neighbor tells her mom it would be best if they leave for now. Whilst leaving she feels something a looks back to Shri’s dead body.

The real Vidya is shown saying Shri was her aunt’s son (her face is hidden). He loved her ever since she was a kid. In their community there is a tradition where cousins are allowed to get married but she was more interested in her medical studies and she also never returned his feelings. Her aunt made Shri grow up with the expectation that they will get married and when it didn’t happened then he obviously felt bad about it. Her aunt eventually got him married to someone else but he wasn’t happy. Matters got worse when Shri’s wife deceived him. He couldn’t recover from the shock and committed suicide.
For almost one month after the incident Vidya suffered from severe depression. She used to get nightmares but with medication she slowly recovered. But what she thought was the end of her suffering turned out to be just the beginning’

Vidya is shown travelling by rickshaw when she gets that smell again. It is the smell of the perfume Shri used to wear. The scene shifts to the hospital and shows Nitesh, a male doctor who is in love with Vidya. Vidya arrives at the hospital and is scared. Nitesh states to a colleague that she seems quiet since a few days now. He goes to help her get coffee and asks if she is ok. She tells him about what happened and he states that in such trauma cases having hallucinations are normal. He goes on to ask her out on a movie and dinner date. Shri is shown sitting behind them. The water bottle that is there falls and Shri’s face is shown in the spilled water.
The next morning Vidya goes into the elevator and it shuts down. Shri is shown behind her and she is scared. She starts calling for help and is pushed against the wall. She struggles to get free when suddenly the lights come back on. She rushes out of the door into the hallway where some people are gathered. A doctor consoles her and asks if she is all right when she notices the bruise marks on her wrists.
The real Vidya says from that day she started to feel as if something was present around her all the time. It was always the smell of the perfume which made her sure it was Shri there. She was scared to tell anyone about it because she thought it would sound very stupid what with her being a doctor and all. She thought to tell her mom, but at that same time her parents left to go to their village for three days. Things got worse before they came back’

Vidya is standing alone on some terrace when she is turned around by the ghost. She is struggling and it looks as if the ghost is kissing her lips and neck. She keeps struggling and walking backwards. She falls off the terrace’and she is shown waking up. She says when she woke up she thought it was just a bad dream but her body was full of bruises. It all turned out to be real but she couldn’t even tell anyone!
The scene shifts to Vidya in a car. She is thanking Nitesh for picking her up. He says to not thank him so early as there is still the movie and dinner left. He starts to talk about her ‘hallucinations’ when she gives him an angry look and he corrects himself saying her ‘dreams’. She says she isn’t imagining things, she is suffering like hell! He calms her down saying he is there for her. He places his hands on hers and it’s obvious they love one another when suddenly the car door opens. Nitesh is dragged outside and in front of an approaching car. Vidya thinks he is killed but he barely escapes death. It was Shri who did all this.
We get to see real Nitesh saying he still can’t believe what happened. There is no logical explanation for the accident. He says after being dragged on to the road he was unconscious for a good time and when he came to, he was in the hospital. Vidya was sitting next to him crying and he felt really bad for her because there was nothing he could have done to help her. She then warned him to stay out of her life if he wanted to remain alive.

Vidya is sitting on her bed crying. She hears Shri calling for her and becomes angry. She is screaming that it’s enough; no matter how hard he tries she will never love him. She yells for him to face her and what more harm can he cause? She keeps on screaming when suddenly her room door closes.
It is now night and Vidya is sleeping. He door opens and it looks as if Shri is coming in. He takes off her sheet and then her pajama bottoms. She is being sexually abused in her sleep.
Next morning Vidya is still sleeping. Her clothes are strewn on the floor. The narrator tells us that when Vidya’s parents returned the next day they found her unconscious. They manage to wake her and ask what happened. They also notice her bruises and she tells them what happened to her. Like she expected they don’t believe her. They felt she had some serious mental illness and admit her in the hospital. The doctor diagnoses Vidya with “sleep paralysis”. Later when the results of her medical examination came back it was discovered that she really was sexually abuses. Everyone was shocked. They kept her in observation for three days and tried different treatments on her then the day came when they all got to see with their own eyes that she was telling the truth all along.
We are shown the same scene that was shown in the beginning. Real Vidya tells us that after that incident she was taken home. She had become like a living corpse and prayed for death to come to be free from the torture. Then one day her mother called her aunt, Shri’s mom, there. She is saddened to see the state Vidya is in and begs her forgiveness. The aunt says she did all this for Shri. She couldn’t handle the shock of her only son’s death so she called back his spirit using a ‘tantrik’.
After learning this Vidya’s parents take her back to their village where their family priest started to treat her. She tells us that she became well after nine months of treatment but is still too weak both mentally and physically to return to Mumbai. Nitesh still calls her often and she is hoping that one day they will be together.

The expert says that it may be shocking to hear but it is possible for a spirit to have rape or have sexual relations with a living person. When a spirit’s desire or wish is left unfulfilled many times it becomes attached with a thirst for revenge. She says that spirits have many powers; they have no problem projecting physical actions. There have not been many cases of this as she has only seen three but it does happen. She tells us about one case that is very similar to the episode. There was a boy who loved a girl but she didn’t return his feelings. She then fell in love with someone else so the spurned boy committed suicide. After his suicide the boy’s spirit tried to rape the girl two times but was unsuccessful. Unfortunately he was successful the third time. The expert says that everyone was shocked to hear about a girl being raped by a spirit. When they communicated with the spirit, he told them it was because the girl humiliated him, spurned his love and then fell in love with someone else’so why not humiliate her too.
The expert continues to tell us the solution to such incidents. She says that the person being affected should consult with a specialist to find out why the spirit is doing such an act and then the specialist should give the spirit salvation.

Precap: A boy and girl are camping in the jungle. They are both asleep on opposite sides on the campfire when something pulls the boy. He awakes and looks around. When he sees nothing there, he goes back to sleep. He is being pulled again by something and screams to the girl for help but she is unable to help him.
