I want Kapil Sharma to watch my show: Sunil Grover

Reacting with witty candour to the sudden decision to get ‘Bua’ Upasana Singh on Comedy Nights With Kapil married during the same week when the rival show Mad In India makes its debut on another channel, former Kapil trouper Sunil Grover quips, “Mere toh apne ghar mein shaadi hai (I’ve a wedding in my own house). I have no time to bother with Pinky Bua’s shaadi. I wish her all the best. And sorry, I couldn’t attend. I was busy putting up a wedding tent and distributing wedding invitations in my house.”

A day ahead of telecast Sunil Grover’s anxiety and nervousness for his show Mad in India is palpable.

“We’ve been slogging really hard, my team and I. We want people to laugh with the content not at the content,” says Sunil.

This week he shot an episode with Govinda and Karisma Kapoor where Grover as his female avatar Chukti danced with Govinda to the raunchy tune of Sarkayee lo khatiya jada lage.

In the episode with Baba Ramdeo the entire Mad In India team would be seen yoga with the Baba.

Says Sunil, “It was great fun to shoot with all the guests that we’ve shot with so far. I am extremely fascinated by the challenge of making this show unique while fitting on the comedy format.”

Sunil knows comparisons with Kapil’s show are inevitable. “I will be judged against the other show. It can’t be helped. But I’ve no choice in the matter. If we don’t stick to the original format audiences would be disappointed. And if we’re too similar to the other show people will say we’re copying the other show.”

So what’s the solution?

Sighs Grover, “I want people to watch both the shows. I also want Kapil Sharma to watch my show. He is a valuable aspect of my growth as a comic actor.”
