If relationships work out, then you are in heaven, but if not, you are f*****: Gautam Rode

Talented actor Gautam Rode, who attracted lots of positive reviews apropos his anchoring of India’s Got Talent (season 3), is back to hosting. This time, he has joined hands with Karan Wahi to host the popular jodi dance show Nach Baliye 5 (Star Plus).

We meets Rode behind the curtains and corners him for a chat where he talks about his career and more. Read on…

How does it feel anchoring Nach Baliye along with Karan Wahi?

It feels good. It has been exactly one year since I had last hosted India’s Got Talent (along with Meiyang Chаng). The former Colors’ talent show was more formal, but this show is chilled out and casual.

What is an anchor’s job according to you?

Today, anchors just don’t announce things. They have to be performers, someone who can crack jokes on others and also be sporting enough to take digs on themselves as well. We are also required to lighten up the tense environment and make it exciting and vibrant. Apart from shaking a leg, in the premiere episode, Karan and I will keep enactig something or the other in each and every episode.

According to the promos, your chemistry with Karan Wahi looks to be rocking. Comment…

I know him for the last six years; he is like my younger brother. What really works for us is the language we use on stage. The typical Delhi boy lingo is (both are from the Capital) fun.

You have been around the entertainment scene since 2000. How do you see your journey?

It has been steady. After my first TV show (Jahan Pyaar Mile), I took a break from the small screen and shifted to movies (Annarth). I also acted in music videos (Tere Bina) and commercials (I keep doing them even now). After that, I returned to TV with Baa Bahoo Aur Baby. My main mantra is always to keep on working. It is not that I choose anything that came my way. The only thing is that l like to keep myself busy and never get frustrated doing any kind of shows. May be, I have always been lucky to mostly get good projects. There have been few mishaps as well; like I did Rubie for 9X, but unfortunately the channel only shut down within six months.

You don’t appear to be very media savvy?

I don’t do active PR knowing very well that plastering yourself all over the media can sometimes be counterproductive.

Among all your TV shows you’ve done which one do you feel is the closest to your heart?
I put my heart in all my shows so it is tough to say, but if pushed, I will mention that they are Baa Bahoo Aur Baby and Lucky.

Can we see you doing fiction again?

After having done my first in Teri Meri Love Stories (Star Plus), I will do one more fiction project for the same channel very soon. But I can’t talk about it yet. I am already shooting for the new project. Both don’t clash for Nach just takes one day of my week.

You have never taken part in non-fiction shows. Any reason?

Right now, I don’t want to take part in one. I am happy anchoring, but never say never as tomorrow one does not know what type of format will be offered, how I will be presented and what would be my mind set then. As of now, I am not comfortable being an actor and a dancer. The whole reality zone is not my cup of tea.

Any chances of returning to the big screen as well…

Films are not on my radar as of now. Over the years, I have done Agyaat (Ram Gopal Verma) and U, Bomsi & Me. I had also shot for Wow which finished around six years back but never got released.

Since Nach Baliye is about relationship, what do you have to say about being in one?

I am totally single now. If relationships work out, then you are in heaven, but if not, you are f*****.
