If there were less repeats of Taarak it would have much higher TRPs!

The Director of Tarak Mehta Ka ooltah Chasmhah speaks about the show.

Neela Telefilms Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV has completed 5 years now. This show has been entertaining the audiences with its humor, wit through the usual day-to-day routine of it’s characters which has been the USP of the show since day one along with Jethalal (Dilip Joshi) and Daya’s (Disha Wakhani) chemistry. To sum up the show is a simple story well told.

We have often seen actors telling about the show, and now we converses with the man behind the creativity Malav Rajda, the director of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

How did your journey in this industry began?
I always wanted to get into media as my family is quite well versed in this field and they have been directing and producing from quite some time now, so I wanted to also direct as I felt I had the inclination to do so. I started with couple of shows on Indian Television and later on bagged Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah. I am thankful and grateful to the producer Asit Modi for the same.

How has your experience been while directing Taarak Mehta..
It’s been 5 years since I am directing Taarak Mehta and I feel it’s one of the best show that I am working on. To be honest, I have a very good and great team of actors who are very co-operative and quite adjusting too. They never create a fuss on the timings and long working hours. It’s been smooth and cordial relationship from the last 5 years.

How is it to work with Dilip Joshi and Disha Wakhani?
Dilip Joshi and Disha Wakhani are the best actors and quite humble. I will say I have learnt a lot from Dilip Joshi and he is one such actor who has inspired and motivated many others. I personally learn every single day from him and Dilipji has absolutely no issues in going ahead and teaching us.

What is your role as a director?
I am directing the show along with Harshad Joshi and we make sure the script is given on time, the show is directed smoothly, it is shot properly on various locations. At times we have to tell the cameraman to set up the camera well so that the shots taken are good. We use multiple cameras as well when required. Usually, we have one to two cameras set up.

Are you apprehensive about the TRP’s ?
No not all! I feel this show is there to stay and it has been running before popular shows came at 8.30 pm. For me it really doesn’t matter what are the TRP’s since the loyal audience do follow the show. The only issue I feel is there are just too many repeats of the show and if we don’t have so many repeats then the 8.30 pm slot will get good TRP’s but there is also a positive point to it that the show is loved worldwide. Our fans just can’t miss a single episode.

What is the USP of the show?
For me it’s the storyline and the script, it is fresh unique and very different. I am proud about the fact that we never have any crunch of stories and we never needed any leaps to move the story forward. The story line has been consistently very strong and the day-to-day subjects have given a boost to the story line and all the issues be it a social issue, fashion issue or a simple issue. They all have given us a great response.

What are your future plans?
I am writing scripts for movies as well and hope they do well too. On the Taarak front I want to assure full entertainment to each and every viewer and would thank everyone for watching it endlessly.

Previous Arshima doesn't mind ageing if the role is a main lead!
