MATHUR’S – THE HALL
Sadanand dials Tarachand’s number to let him know about the pirated-CDs fiasco and how Indu’s shop had been shut, followed by Guddu’s arrest. The lawyer then instigates Tarachand by stating that he was always right and that Indu would never change. Veena overhears all of this and is very disturbed. Once he ends the call, Sadanand notices Veena. The vile man then approaches Veena and acts like he was very apologetic for Indu’s (mis)deeds before walking away.

Tarachand instantly suspects Indu Singh. He concludes that Indu must have come up with such a plan to earn quick money and when caught must have placed all of the blame on his friend to avoid imprisonment.

UNIVERSITY – THE CLASSROOM
Sanchi runs to her classroom in tears. Indu follows her and tries his level best to pacify her. He tries convincing her that the crime was committed neither by him nor by his friends. However, he had nothing to prove himself innocent ‘I was only going about my work earnestly’ the saddened man vows ‘Someone’s trapped us’
However, Sanchi finds herself unable to trust him. After all, he’d lied to her many times in the past. Though modest in her words, she lets him know of her pain of not being able to trust him wholeheartedly ‘I don’t know if this hard work, this business – if all of this is the truth or just a sham…I was always surprised how such a small shop could bring in such large profits, but I attributed it all to your efforts…now looks like its something else altogether!’
She then turns away and walks out of the classroom, not heeding Indu’s pleading calls

MATHURS’ – THE HALL
Sanchi arrives home and requests to see her father, but her mother discloses that her father was not in the state-of-mind to meet up with anyone currently. Sanchi instantly realizes that her father must have come to know about the entire debacle. Turning to Indu, she taunts him for breaking her father’s trust once again and then storms off from the place without giving him a chance to explain.

Sadanand approaches Indu and puts on an act of mock-sympathy while enquiring what’d happened. Indu replies that he had no idea who’d cheated him, but that he’d have his revenge on whoever had done this to him. Needless to say, Sadanand plays along for a while and provides his support to his defeated young nephew.

MATHURS’ – Tiwari’s room
Sadanand blows his own trumpet to Radha with regards to the latest Indu-Sanchi rift, but she’s not really impressed. Instead, she asks him to hand over all that he’d earned since that morning.
After counting the money, she goes on to rebuke him for his meagre earnings before reminding him to get her a saree for ‘Karva chauth!’

TERRACE AT NIGHT
Indu is fuming to himself – desperate to know who’d entrapped him in such a manner. Just then, Sushil mama approaches the disheartened Indu and tries cheering him up. In an attempt to lend his support, Sushil states how he’d wrestle with and strangle the defrauder who’d displayed the audacity to cheat his own nephew. Having watched all of this silently from a distance, Sada walks up to the duo and shuts Sushil up rudely. After shooing his brother away, Sadanand advices Indu to retire for the night and to not exhaust himself over the matter.

SANCHI’S ROOM
Walking into his room, he’s greeted by a not-too-happy and a mum Sanchi. Deciding that he didn’t want to spend the night there, Indu is about to step out when Sanchi notices it ‘Take this handbag with you on your way out…’ she retorts ‘I don’t want gifts bought with money earned from wrong means’
Irked, Indu just decides to hasten out.

DINNER TABLE AT NIGHT
Indu hadn’t arrived at the table for dinner and though Sanchi didn’t want to be worried – she couldn’t help but be anything else!
Observing her daughter’s angst, Veena playfully asks Sanchi to call Indu and find out where he was. However, Sanchi replies in a harsh tone that Indu was no child – he’d return whenever he wanted to!

SANCHI’S ROOM
She hurries into her room and tries keeping her mind occupied with something or the other, but her concern constantly gets the better of her. She mentally admonishes her husband for ‘disappearing’ all of a sudden – and that too without letting anyone know where he’d gone.
She even proceeds to ring his number but then cuts his call ‘When he doesn’t care for anyone, why should I call up to find out where he is?’
Shutting her eyes, the pained girl leans against her headboard and slowly drifts off into sleep.

INDU’S DEN
Sitting on his bed, Indu appears very unsettled. Rajjo tries calming him, but his advice only falls on deaf ears. Soon after, Guddu and Yogi arrive. Indu gives Guddu a cordial hug with a quick acknowledgement of the ‘sacrifice’ he’d done for him. The agonized young man then goes on to speak up about how he was just a useless man now – basically, a good-for-nothing! He hadn’t been able to do anything for his friends or for anyone else. At this point, Indu’s self-esteem seems to hit rock-bottom!
While Guddu doesn’t know how to comfort his bhaiyyaji, Indu flares up ‘What’s my status now…nothing… anyone is able to walk up to my shop and shuts it… they arrest my best friend and I’m unable to do anything about it’
Drinking some water from a steel pitcher, he then flings it away in rage ‘I couldn’t convince my own wife that I’ve done no wrong, then what do I convince anyone else…’

SANCHI’S ROOM
Sanchi wakes up with a start. Her bed was empty and the time was nearly 4:45 am. Indu hadn’t come home through the night.
A few moments later, Veena walks into the room. Sanchi is surprised that her mother was there so early. Walking up to the bed, Veena explains that she’d brought her some food (sargi). It was Karva Chauth (a fast/pooja) that morning and Sanchi would have to have something to eat before sunrise – if not, she’d not be able to have anything till nightfall.

Sanchi doesn’t seem too impressed about keeping a fast for her husband who she thought had wronged her.
Veena comprehends her daughter’s dilemmas ‘This anger, disappointment is all part of life…he’s your husband…please don’t be angry with him today…’ the mother councils ‘Don’t belittle your love with this anger…I know you’ll fast for his long-life and his happiness…’ seeing Sanchi’s indecisive frowns, she asks once again ‘You’ll fast right?’ receiving no reply from Sanchi, Veena concludes on an understanding note ‘I’m not forcing you…I know you’ll do what you think is best…’
Getting off the bed, she leaves the plate on the bedside table and leaves the room – leaving Sanchi to make her own decisions.

Sanchi doesn’t understand what’s the point of following the ‘karva chauth fast’ when their relationship had so many misunderstandins and even lacked basic trust! Tearing up, she wonders if any fasting could ever solve their problems.

THE HALL – THAT MORNING
Sanchi informs her mother that she was off to university. Veena is worried that Indu had been missing all through the night and enquires if Sanchi knew where he was. Sanchi grimly replies that she had no idea. As she is then about to leave, a decked-up Radha arrives at the scene and asks Sanchi why she was off to college when today was he first karva chauth.

Anita chimes in with Radha and then even hands the new bride a decorated plate full of auspicious things to commemorate the girl’s first Karva Chauth. However, the lifeless girl explains that she had important lectures at university that she could not miss and then proceeds to walk away from them with little interest.

PRECAP – Sanchi has returned from university to see a grand pooja at her place – quite a few ladies’d assembled too. Radha asks Sanchi to get ready for the Karva chauth Pooja, but Sanchi refuses to attend the same. Indu watches this from a short distance away and becomes quite dejected.
