Star Plus’ India’s Dancing Superstar to premiere on 27 April

Hot on the heels of an extremely successful season of Nach Baliye, Star Plus is ready to once again bring a unique and never-been-done-before dance show format with India’s Dancing Superstar. This new dance reality show aims to provide a platform to the most passionate and talented dancers in India. What’s unique about the project is that for the first time on Indian television, there is no barrier of age, dance form or style. The participants will be seen showcasing some of the most innovative and entertaining dance styles through their acts. A mix of kids , teenagers, young adults, married couples and even grandparents, the contestants can perform as individuals, pairs or in groups – everyone competes on the same platform to win the coveted title of India’s Dancing Superstar. What’s also different on this show is that there is absolutely no restriction on the dance form. India’s Dancing Superstar will be a beautiful showcase of all the various styles, be it Bollywood, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Ballroom, Salsa or B-Boying!

To Judge the phenomenal talent of dancing, for the first time will be the most entertaining star of Bollywood marking his television debut, Riteish Deshmukh. Along with him the two renowned Bollywood choreographers Geeta Kapur and Ashley lobo will collectively judge the show and select India’s Dancing Superstar.

“At Star Plus, we believe in keeping up with the changing times. Our philosophy ‘Rishta Wahi Soch Nayi’ is about propagating the new within the old. India’s Dancing Superstar is in sync with this ideology – the world of dance has also changed, so we have turned around the rules. No age barriers, no specified dance form, and it is open to everyone! We want it to be India’s biggest dance celebration,” said Nachiket Pantavaidya, General Manager, Star Plus.

After two months of auditions in 18 cities where more than seventy thousand people turned up, how many will go beyond the Dance Trials? Will the kids outnumber the adults, will solos win over duos or will groups outshine everyone? Will bhangra emerge a winner over B-Boying, will Popping rule over Hip-Hop or Salsa over Freestyle?

IDS is a co-production between BBC Worldwide India and Trompe d’oeil Productions.

The show will hit screens on 27 April at 9pm.
