‘Guru is like Mohan’s brother’- Dushyant Wagh

Guru may be a domestic helper but he is exceptionally wise. Though he is a sweet innocent young man he is truly mature. We in conversation with Dushyant Wagh who plays Mohan’s cook in Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha on Colors.

Many actors may hesitate to play a domestic helper. However you have taken up Guru’s role…

I took up Guru’s role as it was a very good one.

Guru is Mohan’s inner voice. Please comment.

Whenever Mohan is troubled and in a dilemma, Guru is a way out of his inner thoughts. He gives Mohan practical and logical advice. When Mohan can’t see the right path, Guru shows him the correct way and so Guru is Mohan’s inner voice.

Guru cares a lot for Mohan and his family. Mohan also loves Guru but I don’t think he has expressed equal caring behaviour for him. Often Mohan displaces his wrath on Guru. Even if this is because of love, it gives our society a negative message that they can shout at their domestic helpers and get away with it. Please comment.

We always tend to displace our anger on a loving family member. Guru is like a family member. Mohan cares deeply for Guru, however he doesn’t display it in the way Guru does for him. Mohan is yet to get an opportunity to prove how he can really go out of his way to help Guru.

Mohan’s mom has even slapped Guru but he didn’t protest. No domestic helper should take physical abuse silently. He should immediately walk out of the house…

Guru has been with Mohan since the inception of the show. He feels very affectionately for Mohan. In fact Guru is like Mohan’s brother. For Mohan’s sake he stays on.

However Mohan had once joked that if he meets with an emergency when he is broke, he will sell Guru’s kidneys to raise the money. Many people may have laughed at that joke but I felt it was cruel and of bad taste…

That is just Mohan’s style of talking. He surely did not mean it literally.

Like Guru can you cook (I know Guru isn’t a great cook though)?

I don’t know how to cook.
Will we see Guru learning to cook Thai, Japanese, Continental and other fancy cuisines?

That will surely be fun for Guru.

Your look in Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha is quite different from your 3 Idiots look…

I changed my hairstyle and body language to play Guru.

How do you bond with Kunal Karan Kapoor?

I share a great on-screen chemistry with Kunal Karan Kapoor as we bond really well off-screen too. In fact we share the same makeup room.

You made your transition from films to TV. Usually it is the other way round.

I don’t differentiate between the big and small screen. I just want to do a good role.

What are your hobbies?

I like to go on long drives especially in the night, listen to music 24 X 7, hang out with friends and spend quality time with my family.
