Horror element in Anamika will not be over the top: Producer Mahesh Pandey

The Indian soap audience has always preferred family drama over any other genre. But whenever any maker tried to deviate from this tried and tested formula, they have had to eat a humble pie.

Colors’ Chhal-Sheh Aur Maat, which infused family drama with thriller and supernatural elements, did not bring in big TRPs. Now, Sony Entertainment Television is trying to mix a hidden evil influence in the family drama narrative with their just launched show Anamika.

Avers producer Mahesh Pandey (the show is co produced by Vikas Seth), “We should not have problems as both our supernatural and family drama tracks run parallel and they do not clash. This was a writing challenging and I think we have managed it well enough. Since Indian families have always talked about a certain negative force harming their lives, the serial should connect with our GEC audiences.”

Talking about the structure of the show, Mahesh further observes, “Anamika will be a normal family drama. Unlike other horror shows, the spooks here will be much more subtle and not over the top. Hence we can air it at the early evening 8 pm time slot.”

He however refuses to spell out how the horror element will pan out. “That is the secret. Why don’t you watch it for yourself?”

Furthermore, a source at Sony says, “Comparisons of this show with Chhal would be incorrect, for the plot of that show wasn’t clear. You did not know when the family drama ended and when the supernatural element began to take shape.”

Let’s see how the audience reacts to Anamika!!!
