I am focusing more on television now: Ekta Kapoor

After churning out numerous shows over the years on Indian television, Balaji Telefilms is back with yet another promising fiction serial Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi on Colors.

The show stars newbie Radhika Madan, Shakti Arora, Sarita Joshi, Gauri Tejwani, Shahab Khan, Prithvi Sankhla amongst others.

Asked to elaborate on her new show, Ekta said, “It is the journey of Ranveer (Shakti) and his feelings for Ishaani (Radhika). The characters are relatable and if viewers are able to feel the pain that Ranveer feels every time his heart breaks a little more, it will be an ultimate win for us.”

Sounds good!!!

But as reported by us, does the plot match with that of Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights? “Not at all. The show has a very classic appeal to it and it’s about two families co-existing in the same house.”

In the 90s, Ekta Kapoor and her production house Balaji Telefilms ruled the roost in terms of content creation on varied channels. The Kyunkis and the Kasautis of the world left indelible impression in the minds of television viewers. Ekta, undoubtedly can be said to be the visionary who revolutionized the business of Indian television.

Post that she fixed her focus on movie business. She scored hits there too. But now, the Czarina is back doing what she does the best, making TV shows with a difference. She has a huge line up of shows currently airing on different channels.

Jodha Akbar (Zee TV), Ye Hai Mohabbatein (Star Plus), Pavitra Rishta (Zee TV), Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (Sony), MTV Webbed, now Meri Aashiqui on Colors, and as reported few more of her shows will launch in the coming months.

Phew…quite a list. So it seems that the Ekta’s Era is back in television.

“(Smiles) There’s nothing like Ekta’s Era. I am a TV producer who works 24 *7. It’s just that I am focusing more on television as I am getting chance to explore myself.”

Whatever she touches, turns gold. So can we see her acting someday? “No. I am not casting myself (laughs).”

And coming back to the show, was it difficult to get Gauri back on television? “That question should be asked to her. But Gauri is a brilliant actor and I am honoured to work with her again. Her character is very different from her previous shows that she played over the years. She will enact lot of shades.”

Your shows always have big families and this show is no different. It has a big Gujarati family: “Gujaratis are my favourite and now we also have a Gujarati Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi (smiles). So all cool”

We wish Ekta and the entire team great success!!!
