I have brought my share of professionalism, dedication and honesty as an actor to Ek Mutthi Aasman

She was the glam diva of the 90s. She romanced with some of the big names from Bollywood on 70mm. But later, she chose to stay away from the glamour world and settle down in life post marriage.
Now, she is back and she is looking as beautiful as ever!!!

We are here to welcome back majestic Shilpa Shirodkar to the world of entertainment who is debuting in Hindi television with DJ’s A Creative Unit’s upcoming social drama on Zee TV, Ek Mutthi Aasman.

We entered into a chat with the lovely lady at the launch press conference. Excerpts…

You are making a comeback on TV. Why not films? “A lot has been spoken about it but had I got back in a glamourous avatar in movies (the way I was 13 years ago), I would have looked like a clown. I have got an opportunity to play an interesting character on television and that is why I am here.”

What about hectic shooting schedules on television… she averred, “I am loving all of it. Moreover, there is no time to think about it as you are all tired after a hard day’s work. In fact, my producer complains that I don’t answer his call once I am home and I always tell him that if I take calls I will be too exhausted to give time to my family.”

The story is such that the leap will take place in not more than 10 episodes. Hence, when asked if her character would be sidelined post the leap she stated, “The story is about Kamla Bai, if we put her aside the story would not make sense. What will happen in the future is something I won’t be able to tell you but I believe Kamla Bai will be around for a long time.”

There is no doubt that Shilpa is this show’s biggest USP but the actress believes otherwise. “Having me on the show shouldn’t be the USP of the show but the character of Kamla Bai should be. We are planning to tell stories via Kamla Bai. As an actor on the show, I was very pleased with the script as I could see a bit of me in Kamla. She is very real and practical, qualities which I too possess. Hence, when Deeya (Producer Deeya Singh) was narrating this character I felt she was talking about me. In fact, Deeya has been my support system. She always believed that I would be able to play this character aptly. Hence, when she called me I went like clay to her so that she could mould me the way she wanted to.”

Interestingly the actress took six months to give a nod for the show. Why such a long time? “There were a lot of things to discuss and things took time to materialize. Zee and Deeya-Tony (Singh) discussed for a year to finalize this project. Compared to that, at least I was quicker (laughs).”

Shilpa also discussed about the project with her husband and daughter before taking up as she tells us, “I discussed it with husband Paresh and told my daughter that I will be busy now and things will change as I won’t be available 24×7 and she understood that. And my husband knows that this is what I love doing so he is very supportive of me.”

Lastly, she states that it’s the same all over again with working on memorizing dialogues and acting but there are a few things that have remained intact, “My attitude and mentality hasn’t changed. I have brought my share of professionalism, dedication and honesty as an actor to Ek Mutthi Aasman.”

We wish you luck with you second innings in the world of entertainment Shilpa!!!
