Ruk Jana Nahin 13th June 2012 Written Update by lashy

Listening from the terrace Sanchi hears the shabby remark that Indu had just made about her at the podium. Looking up in disdain, the bold Sanchi tells her friend ‘He does what he does best – dragging an opponent down to hide his own faults!’
Mehek is worried ‘This is just the start.. who knows what all Indu might resort to in future?’
It is only at this point that the two girls realize that shwetha was missing (Yayy!). However, their thoughts are swiftly drawn back to the election brawls playing out in the campus.
‘And what would you do, if you lose? You are taking such a huge risk Sanchi…’ the concerned Mehek asks
‘Well…it was Indu who taught me to take this risk, owing to his disgusting behaviour…I have to win this election anyhow’

‘Please don’t be swayed by anyone…your vote bank is very important for the future of this university…so please think carefully before placing your votes…your student leader Indu Singh has always been with you and will continue to do so too…’ having finally concluded his speech, Indu jumps down from the podium and joins his aide in the audience – Shukla.
‘She thought that she’ll use this silly piece of document and watch me cave in.. but one needs guts to defeat me…’ Indu boasts ‘She says she will solve the small problems and win this election …has anyone ever won elections by solving such silly problems…’
Shukla and Indu share a few hearty chuckles at Sanchi’s expense, before Indu swears to himself ”I’ll show her how to tackle problems…’

‘These small problems are what grow into issues of larger magnitude Mehek…’ Sanchi advices her friend, while sitting in an empty classroom ‘That’s why I dont want to think or plan big… I’ll start by solving these smaller issues first…’
Still unconvinced by Sanchi’s stance, Mehek argues ‘What if the students fail to support you in this…’
‘What if they don’t support Indu?’ Sanchi disputes
‘They fear Indu so they stand by him’
‘Exactly…I want to free the students from Indu Singh’s clasp…I want to rid this college of him …’ she pauses ‘And for that I need to be in the midst of students to spread my word…’
Like a woman on a mission, Sanchi suddenly strides out of the classroom; closely followed by an ever-loyal Mehek!

Walking down the hallways of the university flanked by his friends, a pretentious Indu continues his taunts ‘She thinks that a few claps is equivalent to an achievement’
Guddu is not entirely comfortable by the latest developments ‘But bhaiyyaji, what if she manages to change the student’s minds?’
Indu grabs Guddu by his shoulders and stares into his eyes, as he tells him with authority ‘Guddu, one needs to be intelligent to influence others…a good speech and a few claps will not guarantee anything’ he pauses ‘I am sure about my victory, just as I am sure Sanchi will lose face in these elections…’

A group of students are having a serious discussion about the problems in their university (for once, its not about Indu and Sanchi) – The lab, classroom fans, the benches – all seem to be dysfunctional. With soaring temperatures, lectures are obviously difficult to even sit through!
‘Everyone is only interested in politics’ one student says
‘Lets just boycott classes’ says another
Having overheard their discussions, an ever-thoughtful Sanchi advices them ‘You will be the losers, if you do so’ she comes up with an idea ‘Let’s sit here in the corridor of the college and study…the administration will notice our plight and understand that our problems are genuine’
Watching their puzzled expressions, Sanchi goads them ‘Come on.. we’ll get our fans and chairs…’
Though apprehensive at first, Sanchi manages to convince them to sit on the floor in the university corridor. The professor eventually arrives and is taken aback to find his class seated outside. He questions Sanchi about this and she explains the entire situation to him, requesting the administration to take action.
No sooner, the timid professor leaves the scene and is replaced by a slightly more daring one – Janardhan.
On being informed of the problem, Janardhan is at wits end.
In the meanwhile, Shukla doesn’t leave this opportunity to chide Janardhan ‘You supported sanchi, now she seems to be becoming a big hurdle in your path!’
Frustrated by the episode, Janardhan orders the students to cease the disturbance. He calls upon Sanchi and reminds her in a controlled tone ‘Sanchi…you are only contesting the elections now, you haven’t won yet…besides, this is not even your class’
‘However, this university is mine’ she clarifies defiantly
Hearing her daring take on the matter, the students begin openly supporting her and the professors have little option but to walk away from the scene, for the moment.

An ever-anxious Veena meets Sanchi just outside the university grounds – the mother’s excuse being that she had seen a bad dream and rushed to the campus to ensure her daughter was fine. Sanchi assures her that she was all right and the two are about to leave for home. However, their fate brings them in front of Indu singh, yet again!
Shadowing his life sized portrait in the backdrop (a campaign tactic), he quickly approaches the terrified lady and once again falls at her feet ‘Welcome Sasuma..your feet have touched the grounds of this university…we are all blessed now…’
Sanchi tries ushering her mother away, but Indu continues addressing them calmly ‘Today your mother has come…tomorrow your father will come…’ he turns to Veena ‘Especially since your daughter is now contesting elections against her husband… see this election is now a family affair…’
The latest insight provided by her son-in-law, manages to shock Veena a few degrees more!
Having realized that he had just let Veena in on something she wasn’t aware of, he ignites her rage further ‘Sasuma…see for yourself…what all Sanchi does in the name of studies…(so he says!)…’ he then turns to Sanchi with a teasing glance ‘But don’t worry Sanchi… you have my full support..so don’t worry’
Indu bows down to touch Veena’s feet, forcing her to jolt back once again; before leaving the two to their discussions.

Flabbergasted by Sanchi’s decision to contest the elections, she gives her daughter an earful. Sanchi, on the other hand; tries to pacify her mother. She surmises that she was doing this to bury the humiliation besetting her and that she was doing it for the sake of the college. She turns chirpier, as she adds finally ‘Besides, everyone will come to know that the student leader of this prestigious university is Sanchi…your daughter…’
‘That is exactly what I DON’T WANT!’ her furious mother retaliates ‘Everyone will then come to know what’s been happening to you…and what all has befallen you in the past…’
The fretful Veena repeatedly requests Sanchi to to give up her quest after the leader post. However, Sanchi does not relent. Observing her daughter’s stubbornness, Veena eventually threatens her that she’d inform her father.
‘He already knows about this and has permitted me’ Sanchi confesses ‘Ma…I am not a child any more…we have to face our problems daringly…we have to make our own pathway to progress in life…you wait and watch…every new day will take me a step closer to victory’
Veena storms away from the place angrily, a worried Sanchi at her heels.

Next day…
Coming to the university the next fine morning, Sanchi discovers posters of both herself and of Indu Singh plastered all over the walls (separately). They are campaign posters for the upcoming elections carrying separate slogans for the two. Watching what she feels like a step towards her victory, Sanchi is elated. Walking towards a classroom, she realizes that the students have now been furnished with new benches and new fans too. Her entry is greeted with claps and slogans of admiration. She is wholeheartedly thanked by the students for her hand in helping their cause. They pledge her both their support and their votes, in the upcoming elections. An undoubtedly exhilarated Sanchi swiftly enquires about the posters put up in support of her.
‘We pooled in our pocket money and put up the posters ourselves’ they explain gratefully ‘Why should only Indu hog all the fame…now Sanchi would also have something to show off about, in the campaign’
She is genuinely touched by their gesture
A quiet spectator to all the latest developments is an infuriated Indu. Standing a short distance away, he cannot believe his ears when students were now vowing their support to her, his enemy!
In the meanwhile, Sanchi takes out a bundle of money from her jhola and hands it over to the students. Studying their hesitation, she explains candidly ‘This is your money that I am returning back to you… the money that you had given Indu Singh during the reception’
The silent Indu becomes increasingly exasperated, as Sanchi continues with the brainstorming ‘Friends…I have an idea…we can open an account – a student account..everyone pools in whatever they want to…and that money can be used to aid a student in need’
The students find themselves overwhelmed by the way in which this girl was coming up with something so revolutionary every minute. (Pun intended!)
They eventually rake their brains and come up with a (the most obvious) conclusion ‘Now we’ve understood that Indu Singh is wrong.. and that you are right…(Wow guys- I must give it to you!) we girls can get together, defeat him and have him ousted from the campus!’
It comes as no surprise that Indu by now has turned profoundly wild!

The boiling Indu paces up and down his adda, his memories rife with the latest disgrace he had just witnessed. Neither Shukla’s words not his friend’s counsel have much effect on him. It is then that the cunning Tiwari waltzes in, a fat merchant now by his side.
After a short speech of mock-encouragement for his nephew, Tiwari introduces the plump businessman standing beside him ‘Indu, this is seth Giridharilal…he has plenty of Benarasi saree factories…owns a fleet of buses… ‘ he pauses ‘However, a few shops of his have now been usurped by some tenants…they need to be vacated…’ (So says Tiwari! lol – the irony)
He drives a callous idea into Indu’s mind ‘Indu…what is important for you is to win these elections at any cost…and if you don’t get support, just bribe the students..don’t worry about money’
Indu understands where his uncle was coming from. He was required to do this small work for the businessman and in return he would be handsomely rewarded for it. That money could then be used to bribe the university students into voting for him. Obsession and rage clouding his judgement, Indu gives his word ‘Consider your work done’ he tells the merchant.
The merchant hands over the money to Indu, but Tiwari takes it from him instead. The vile lawyer justifies his actions to Indu ‘With elections close by, don’t keep the money in your adda…I’ll keep this box of ‘Lakshmi’ safely at home’ he goads his nephew ‘Now watch Indu…no one can stop you from winning the elections!’

PRECAP
Walking towards a hostel room, Mehek informs Sanchi that her friend Ragini was put up there. She quickly adds that Swetha had just joined Ragini’s room too.
Approaching the hostel room, they initially knock the door, but then find it open. On entering slowly, they are shocked to find someone there
‘Swetha’ sanchi shouts
