‘Saroj now regards Megha as her own daughter’- Madhuri Bhandiwdekar

Treat your bahu like a daughter and not as a daughter-in-law. Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha beautifully conveyed this message by showing how Saroj Vyas matured. We in talks with Madhuri Bhandiwdekar who plays Megha’s mother-in-law Saroj.

How was your journey from playing an irate mother-in-law to Megha to a lady who is like a caring mother to her?
Initially Saroj considered Megha as her daughter-in-law and not as her daughter. I was a very traditional lady who couldn’t think of her widowed bahu getting remarried. In the initial episodes there was a scene in which a widow remarriage scene from a soap is being beamed on TV. Saroj doesn’t want to watch the scene. Her husband played a crucial role in helping her transform from having a traditional mindset to a liberal frame of mind. Saroj now regards Megha as her own daughter.

How was your fan following for this show?
My fans thoroughly enjoyed to see me play a caring and loving mother.

How do you feel now that the show is to come to an end?
I am sad and shocked at the same time. There was so much about my character and family that could have been explored on the show. For instance my elder son, his wife and my eldest grandson have problems. That track wasn’t well explored nor resolved.

After Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha, what?
I have played a loving mother on Behenein, Jaane Kya Baat Hui and Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha. Now I want to do a different role, maybe a comic character. I like SAB TV and Chidiya Ghar is my favourite show. I would however like to be cast in a brand new show on SAB TV or in a good comedy serial on some other channel.
