I did not choose India’s Dancing Superstar over DID 4: Geeta Kapoor

Veteran and talented choreographer Geeta Kapoor, who is one of the judges of Star Plus’ latest reality show India’s Dancing Superstar, is a bit disappointed that she will not be able to judge Dance India Dance 4 as well.

“I did not choose India’s Dancing Superstar over DID. This above Zee TV franchise (DID 1 to 3) has given me fame and whatever I have today,” she quips. Explaining why she can’t do DID 4, Geeta says, “After DID 3 and Little Masters, all of us judges Terence Lewis, Remo D’Souza and me decided to take a break and get into our own activities. While Remo went on to do ABCD: Anybody Can Dance, Terence judged Nach Baliye. When I was offered this show, I took it up.”

And now I have got to know that DID might come back with its season 4 but sadly, I can’t be part of it as I am already committed here. I feel sad that it has come late,” Geeta avers though she does not deny a possible return in the future.

“Of course, if Zee calls me, I will go back, that is my home ground. I have no hard and fast rules that once I have gone from here to there, I can’t get back. Dance is my job, so if it beckons me to try out something different and challenging, I will surely do it,” she informs.

Coming back to India’s Dancing Superstar, Geeta Ma (as she is lovingly called) feels that fellow judge Riteish Deskhmukh lacks self confidence and is also lazy as far his dance steps go. “I would like to work with him in some project which will give him that self confidence,” Geeta observes. Here she accepts that there will be a divergence of views between the judges since they are looking at the dance format from different perspectives.

“Riteish looks at it only from an entertainment point of view, while I consider the emotional connectivity and how good and flamboyant a particular dance is. Given his background, Ashley Lobo concentrates more on the technical aspects. So there are times where we clash but we come to a consensus after hearing each other out, for at the end of the day, we are all looking for something fresh. May be that is the reason why the audition processes took such a long time,” the choreographer maintains.

Geeta prefers shows like India’s Dancing Superstar and Dance India Dance over celebrity dance shows like Nach Baliye for they are the ones that provide a platform to common people to showcase their skills.

Geeta is also choreographing the Twelfth Indian Telly Awards.
