Not Angad, but Mohit was the first choice to play the lead in Amrit Manthan

Today’s actors are quite professional and don’t mind saying no to senior producers if they feel that a project is not worth their while. One such example is Mohit Sehgal.

Hot and handsome Mohit, boyfriend of television diva Sanaya Irani, apparently turned down the offer from senior producer Rajan Shahi to essay the lead role in Life OK’s Amrit Manthan which later was bagged by Angad Hasija.

We broke the news on Angad entering the project as Navi Bhangu’s replacement.

As per sources, Mohit, whose last show was the ill-fated Mujhse Kuchh Kehti…Yeh Khamoshiyaan on Star Plus, felt that taking up Amrit Manthan which anyways is not doing very well and might go off-air would not do his career any great favours, hence he turned down Rajan Shahi’s offer. Beside Mohit, several actors were also shortlisted before Director’s Kut zeroed in on Angad who debuted on TV with Rajan’s hit show Bidaai (Star Plus).

When we spoke to Rajan Shahi about the same he said, “No, I’ve not spoken to Mohit and Angad was the only choice from day one, so there is no question of anyone refusing. Mohit is a good actor with a star persona and I know him well. I will call him directly if there is something. Anyways, Mohit will not suit the character we have in mind for AM (Amrit Manthan).”

Then we called up Mohit and the actor said (refuting Rajan’s claims), “I was indeed approached for Amrit Manthan but did not do it for I want to be a part of a new show with fresh characters.”

He also denied the buzz that he had turned down the offer for the show had run its life. However, our source stands by the story.

Will Mohit’s loss prove to be Angad’s gain??? Only time will tell…
