Without leaps, shows will shut down in six months: Sumona Chakravarti

If you ever meet Sumona Chakravarti aka Natasha of Sony Entertainment Television’s Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, never ever tell her that her character is bad, for she will get on the defensive forthwith.

When we asked her the same, she replied, “It would be very wrong to call Nutts (character’s nick name) as a negative person. It is so, that initially, she was a grey character, after which she had shades of both black and white. My character has always been very realistic. Having attended college in South Mumbai, I have seen many Natashas around whom I have taken character sketches from. I am very happy with the growth of my role, that from a bratty girl to a married lady. In a way, her journey is just like ordinary people going about life; even I am not the same what I was, say, five years back.”

Here Sumona added that success has not been that easy. “I have no Godfather and hail from a normal middle class family. I have done seven shows namely Kasturi, Kasamh Se and Sun Yaar Chill Maar among others before Bade Achhe, and this Balaji Telefilms show finally changed my life. It is because of this show that I am getting other offers (Comedy Nights with Kapil and Comedy Circus).”

“My biggest pillar of support has been my parents. When I was young, my mom would accompany me to auditions. The toughest part for any actor is the waiting period between two shows; it can be extremely tough. Here, my parents were always there for me. They never pressurised me to do anything and always had trust on me. The only condition that dad put on me was that I should finish my education, which I successfully did. I would advise the same to other youngsters who wish to follow our line,” said the actress categorically.

Looking ahead, Sumona has no problem if Bade Achhe does plan a big fat leap. “Ekta Kapoor (producer) is the queen of the TV industry and knows what she is doing, for she understands what the audiences want,” Sumona quipped.

When asked about her take on leaps she observed, “I have nothing for or against a leap. But let’s face it; they help to take the story forward. Without leaps, shows will shut down in six months flat.”
Three cheers for a superb future, Sumona!!!
