    Joke : Career Choice…

A country preacher had a teenage son, and it was time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession. Like many young men, the boy didn’t really know what he wanted to do, and he didn’t seem too concerned about it.

One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy’s room and placed on his study table four objects:

A bible, a silver dollar, a bottle of Jack Daniels, and a Playboy magazine.

‘I’ll just hide behind the door, the preacher said to himself, ‘and when he comes home from school this afternoon, I’ll see which object he picks up.’
‘If it’s the Bible, he’s going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be! ‘If he picks up the dollar, he’s going to be a business man, and that would be okay, too. ‘But, if he picks up the bottle, he’s going to be a no-good drunkard, and Lord, what a shame that would be. ‘And worst of all, if he picks up that magazine, he’s going to be a skirt-chasing bum.’

The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son’s footsteps as he entered the house whistling and heading for his room.

The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room, he spotted the objects on the table. With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them.

Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm.
He picked up the Silver Dollar and dropped into his pocket.
He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink while he admired this month’s centerfold.

‘Lord have mercy,’ the old preacher whispered in disgust, ‘He’s going to be the next president!’

    The Gift of Time

The last wishes of Alexander the Great …

On his death bed, Alexander summoned his army generals and
told them his three ultimate wishes:

    1. The best doctors should carry his coffin …
    2. The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold, precious stones)
should be scattered along the procession to the cemetery ….
    3. His hands should be let loose, so they hang outside the coffin for all to see !!

One of his generals who was surprised by these unusual requests asked
    Alexander to explain .

Here is what Alexander the Great had to say :

    1. “I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that in the face of death, even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal ..”

    2. “I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees
that material wealth acquired on earth, will stay on earth..”

    3. I want my hands to swing in the wind, so that people understand that
we come to this world empty handed and we leave this world empty
handed after the most precious treasure of all is exhausted, and that is … TIME.

We do not take to our grave any material wealth. TIME is our most precious
treasure because it is LIMITED. We can produce more wealth, but we cannot produce more time.

When we give someone our time, we actually give a portion of our life that we will never take back . Our time is our life !

The best present that you can give to your family and friends is your TIME.

holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see & asked the students “How much do you think this glass weighs?”
    .
    ’50gms!’….. ’100gms!’ …..’125 gms’ …the students answered.
    .
“I really don’t know unless I weigh it,” said the professor, “but, my question is:
What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?”…. .
    ‘Nothing’ …..the students said.
    .
‘Ok what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?’ the professor asked.
‘Your arm would begin to ache’ said one of the student
    .
“You’re right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?”
“Your arm could go numb; you might have severe muscle stress & paralysis & have to go to hospital for sure!”
….. Ventured another student & all the students laughed
    .
    “Very good.
But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?” Asked the professor.
    ‘No’…. Was the answer.
“Then what caused the arm ache & the muscle stress?”
    .
    The students were puzzled.
“What should I do now to come out of pain?” asked professor again.
“Put the glass down!” said one of the students
    .
    “Exactly!” said the professor.
Life’s problems are something like this.
    .
Hold it for a few minutes in your head & they seem OK.
Think of them for a long time & they begin to ache.
    .
Hold it even longer & they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything.
    .
It’s important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, But EVEN MORE IMPORTANT is to ‘PUT THEM DOWN’ at the end of every day before you go to sleep…
    .
That way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh &strong & can handle any issue, any challenge that comes your way!
    .
    Moral
So, when you start your day today, Remember friend to ‘PUT THE GLASS DOWN TODAY! ‘

I told her they should connect back the guttering into the tanks like my father had it, at lest they could flush the toilet and filter the water to use otherwise, but good that it regularise now, we still getting water just a bit on mornings, one load of clothes can’t even complete washing, that’s frustrating and this is how it is, not gonna change,

That must be so frustrating . .. Nothing is being done to raise the level of efficiency for any of these state owned enterprises . .. Our lowlife minister of finance has already stated that he’ll be having to sell some of the state owned companies soon , I think petrotrin might be first in the list , maybe he might get rid of WASA also , who knows . .. It’s sad , so many years after independence and we still can’t handle our affairs properly . ..

There are 2 old stories , that I always think of with regards to politicians , that I’d found in my moms Old West Indian Reader book , I still have the book , although its missing pages , has no cover and is brown and tattered 🙂 . .. One is An Honest Man , and the other is , Who will bell the cat .. Do you know them ?

      Ingredients:
      3/4 head cauliflower
      2 large eggs
      1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
juice from 1/2 lime (about 2 Tbsp)
      1/2 tsp kosher salt

      Instructions:
      1. Preheat the oven to 375F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

      2. Cut the cauliflower into same-sized pieces and pulse in a food processor until it is finely ground, about the same size as a grain of couscous. This should make about 2 cups of riced cauliflower.

      3. Put the cauliflower in a microwave-safe bowl, cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 2 minutes, then stir and microwave again for another 2 minutes. Let cool until you can handle the cauliflower without burning yourself. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible from the cauliflower using a cheesecloth or kitchen towel.

      4. In a medium bowl, mix the cauliflower, eggs, cilantro, lime, salt and pepper. Mix until well combined. Use your hands to shape 6 small tortilla-sized circles on the parchment paper.

      5. Bake for 10 minutes, carefully flip each tortilla, and return to the oven for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until completely set.

Girl….Not 100% but I needed some help to remember the great wisdom in these stories..
I know that you’ll not mind if I share these remarkable stories…

      An Honest Man…,

The story tells of a woodcutter who accidentally dropped his axe into a river and, because this was his only means of livelihood, sat down and wept. Taking pity on him, the god Hermes (also known as Mercury) dived into the water and returned with a golden axe. “Was this what you had lost?”, Hermes asked, but the woodcutter said it was not, and returned the same answer when a silver axe was brought to the surface. Only when his own tool is produced does he claim it. Impressed by his honesty, the god allows him to keep all three. Hearing of the man’s good fortune, an envious neighbor threw his own axe into the river and wailed for its return. When Hermes appeared and offered him a golden axe, the man greedily claimed it but was denied both that and the return of his own axe.

Though the tale’s moral is that ‘Honesty is the best policy’, another proverb …’A river does not always bring axes’. But since this was glossed to mean that no person always acts consistently, The sequence of ideas that led to this understanding of the fable also exposes the gap in the envious neighbor’s logic. He had observed the proximate cause for enrichment, namely dropping an axe in the river, and overlooked the ultimate cause – the need for scrupulous honesty. The right combination of circumstances had to be there for Hermes to act as he did. Without them, as the neighbor eventually learned, ‘the river does not always bring (golden) axes’.

      Who will bell the cat….

The fable concerns a group of mice who debate plans to nullify the threat of a marauding cat. One of them proposes placing a bell around its neck, so that they are warned of its approach. The plan is applauded by the others, until one mouse asks who will volunteer to place the bell on the cat. All of them make excuses. The story is used to teach the wisdom of evaluating a plan not only on how desirable the outcome would be, but also on how it can be executed. It provides a moral lesson about the fundamental difference between ideas and their feasibility, and how this affects the value of a given plan.

S ….Wow!!!! Just great…Paints a perfect picture of our politicians!!!

The second one is correct :

outwit their common enemy, the Cat. Some said this, and some said that; but at last a young mouse got up and said he had a proposal to make, which he thought would meet the case. “You will all agree,” said he, “that our chief danger consists in the sly and treacherous manner in which the enemy approaches us. Now, if we could receive some signal of her approach, we could easily escape from her. I venture, therefore, to propose that a small bell be procured, and attached by a ribbon round the neck of the Cat. By this means we should always know when she was about, and could easily retire while she was in the neighbourhood.” 1
This proposal met with general applause, until an old mouse got up and said: “That is all very well, but who is to bell the Cat?” The mice looked at one another and nobody spoke. Then the old mouse said : It is one thing to make a suggestion, and another to carry it through . ..

Sorry , the previous one is incomplete. ..

LONG ago, the mice had a general council to consider what measures they could take to outwit their common enemy, the Cat. THE ELEPHANT ROPE

A man was walking one day and saw some elephants which had only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.

My cab driver driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us!

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, really friendly. So I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!”

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage (frustration, anger, and disappointment, etc.). As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.

Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so… love the people who treat you right & pray for the ones who don’t. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

    Have a blessed, garbage-free day.

    TRUE LIFE STORY…
My name Is Mercy Few months ago, I graduated from the university.
On my way back home, i went to the park and got a bus.
While waiting for other passengers, I had this strange urge to urinate.
It was so strong that it felt like I was going to mess my dress if I didn’t ease myself immediately.
I had to leave my seat and look for the toilet/bathroom in the park to ease myself.
When I got back, a man had taken over my seat.
He dumped the book I left there on another seat.
We argued and argued but it wasn’t yielding any result for the man appears troublesome from the way he talked.
I got tired and gave up. I sat exactly where he dumped my book. Shortly after, the driver took off. On our way, we had a very terrible accident.
The impact from the crash made me faint. While i was unconscious, I saw myself crying by the road side, then this man on white came to me,
I couldn’t see his face very well but I remembered all what he said to me while I was still unconscious.
    When I woke up. I noticed that someone had died in the bus that day;
The man who took over my seat was killed by a metal that pierced through his chest.
When I realized that I would have been the dead one, I remembered the message the man gave me. He said: ”
MANY ARROWS OF DEATH & MISFORTUNE HAVE BEEN FIRED YOUR WAY BUT THEY WILL ALL PASS OVER YOU.
WHOEVER YOU # SHARE THIS MESSAGE, I WILL MAKE ALL ARROWS OF SORROWS, MISFORTUNE, DEATH PASS OVER THEM.”
    THEN HE DISAPPEARED..

    The world is a puzzle

There was a man who had a little boy that he loved very much. Everyday after work the man would come home and play with the little boy. He would always spend all of his extra time playing with the little boy.

One night, while the man was at work, he realized that he had extra work to do for the evening, and that he wouldn’t be able to play with his little boy. But, he wanted to be able to give the boy something to keep him busy. So, looking around his office, he saw a magazine with a large map of the world on the cover. He got an idea. He removed the map, and then patiently tore it up into small pieces. Then he put all the pieces in his coat pocket.

When he got home, the little boy came running to him and was ready to play. The man explained that he had extra work to do and couldn’t play just now, but he led the little boy into the dining room, and taking out all the pieces of the map, he spread them on the table. He explained that it was a map of the world, and that by the time he could put it back together, his extra work would be finished, and they could both play. Surely this would keep the child busy for hours, he thought.

About half an hour later the boy came to the man and said, “Okay, it’s finished. Can we play now.?”

The man was surprised, saying, “That’s impossible. Let’s go see.” And sure enough, there was the picture of the world, all put together, every piece in it’s place.

The man said, “That’s amazing ! How did you do that ?” The boy said, “It was simple. On the back of the page was a picture of a man. When I put the man together the whole world fell into place.”

Please enjoy this little story …..

When I was a kid, Mum liked to make food for dinner & I remember one night in particular when she had made dinner after a long, hard day at work. On that evening, Mum placed a plate of bread, jam and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet, all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smiled at my Mum and asked me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember hearing my Mum apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burned biscuits.” Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your mum had a long hard day at work today and she’s really tired. And besides… A burnt biscuit never hurt anyone but harsh words do!” You know, life is full of imperfect things…and imperfect people. I’m not the best. What I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults and choosing to celebrate each others differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing and lasting relationship. So…please pass me a biscuit. And yes, the burnt one will do just fine! And please pass this along to someone who has enriched your life…I just did! Life is too short to wake up with regrets… Love the people who treat you right and have compassion for the ones who don’t. ENJOY LIFE NOW – IT HAS AN EXPIRY DATE”

Liman I’ve been reading the news on your, country, it hurts to see such senseless horrid acts against the innocent, and the oppressors always want to throw blame on some entity or the other, like the government etc, but not themselves,
Well as they say, this is the age of evil, the iron age, kaliyug and all that, evil taking over, and getting worse every day, why, why can’t we all live in our own little corner, do our own thing leave others be,
I do believe there is a God, and karma never fails,

Amaica dear , I’d like to open a topic for discussion please . What is your opinion , and anyone else’s opinion , anyone at all can say please , how do they feel about this statement ?

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful –

    Lucius Annaeus Seneca

I know it’s a contentious topic , but I think most topics of interest are .

      Hi S…

Girl you are truly a teacher.,.,such a hard question..
Afresh should be here to answer also. However I’ll
give it a try… I’ll be honest I discussed it.

I believe that the world’s major religions started from those who were a witness to the worlds great Avatars and Mystics. Scientist recently discovered proof of this truth.
It is from these men that mankind may still see the manifestation of God. Because of different, times, location, and teaching styles ordinary men became caught up on particulars and thus religions claimed to have exclusivity on truth instead of seeing the original teachings of Buddha, Krishna, Christ, Moses, Mohammad, and more. They all stem from the same source of Divinity.

Religions are a necessity although spirituality is the end result.Every religion has similar norms and practices which we see as basic human values.Truth, Love, Peace, etc. but if they are used to develop understanding tolerance and kindness then surely you have your answer.. On the other hand If they are used to do the opposite, then the science and intellectual minded individuals will see religion as false and we can’t blame them.
When we look back at the role of some religions in this world, they are to be blamed for most of man’s wars and conflict and bloodshed. The recent event in Paris is a good example.

Good morning Amaica dear 🙂 , thank you for the reply . It’s a very good reply .
I always wonder though , why there can never be just one religion of mankind , one that is exempt from all the rules and practices of formalized religions . I mean , if our ultimate aim is to attain peace on earth and after death , how can such a motive be attained if people are divided through the very means that is supposed to deliver this desire ? Every religion claims some superiority to the other , they all denounce in some way , the practices of the other ; yet ironically , religion was supposedly designed to practice peace and tolerance , yet still it results in so much squabble . How can something , which has been ordained by God , create so much havoc ?
In my view , religion divides more than it unites , it creates frictions and fractions . Take for example the fact that Hinduism , Christisnity , Islam , all have so many subsets of itself . Christianity has morphed to such a state that I think I peronally wonder if aspects of it can even be called Christianity anymore . In my opinion , religion is mind control , it promises , but never delivers . It misrepresents itself , by giving false promises that if certain steps are adhered to , the end result would be solely beneficial . I believe in a God , in a superior being , but , I also believe that ultimately it is up to me , to my choices , how I live . I try to treat others the way I’d like to be treated , simple as that .

S…. Very enlightening indeed….you have given so much food for thought.
It’ll take me some time to assimilate all of this.
I must add that some of the leaders in religion use it for their own personal gains.

      No need for complicated philosophy.
Our own brain, our own heart is our temple.

Hi Amaica, how’s the family? I guess the Diwali celebration was fabulous. About France, so sad this is happening there. Same thing we are facing here in Nigeria if not worst. Killings each day. In North east Nigeria, a sect group called Boko haram keep slaughtering people day by day like chicken. If they don’t slaughter, they bomb, those residing there live in fear. Who knows what would happen in the next moment.
Dear sister, we all live here via God’s grace. Last year April, this sect penetrated into a boarding school went away with more than 300 girls, few escaped and over 275 were never seen till date. Most time, I imagine how these girls’ parent would feel. God help us.

Adorable Kris, how has it been with you. I trust your family is doing fine. Greetings to them all.

      Liman…

I was out for most of the day, returned a while ago.
Read you message over and over and my eyes are
teary. I was never aware of this information before.
It is very very sad. My heart goes out to the victims and
their families.Taking the children away from school…
that is so heart breaking. To live in fear like that is frightening.
What is your Government doing about it…What is the
other International bodies doing….you guys need urgent help.

When these things happen…We can only rely on God’s Grace.
Keep on praying my sister..The storm will end soon.
I’ll remember you and you people in my prayer… God Bless.

Very sad Liman dear . There are so many political and historical aspects to these crimes ; there are deep seated roots of evil and corruption which have led to this outcome . The universe always tries to balance itself though , one day their reign of terror will end . It’s so sad and unfortunate though , that in the meantime , so many innocent lives are being lost . Nigeria has too much wealth and resources at its disposal to allow such men to strive .
It’s the wish of certain people that that group remains as it is . Someone has to be their suppliers and informants . They won’t survive if they are cut off from all amenities .

Paris….Friday night at a rock show.

Tells the world what transpired that fatal night.

You never think it will happen to you. It was just a friday night at a rock show. the atmosphere was so happy and everyone was dancing and smiling. and then when the men came through the front entrance and began the shooting, we naiively believed it was all part of the show. It wasn’t just a terrorist attack, it was a massacre.

Dozens of people were shot right infront of me. Pools of blood filled the floor. Cries of grown men who held their girlfriends dead bodies pierced the small music venue. Futures demolished, families heartbroken. in an instant. Shocked and alone, I pretended to be dead for over an hour, lying among people who could see their loved ones motionless.. Holding my breath, trying to not move, not cry – not giving those men the fear they longed to see. I was incredibly lucky to survive. But so many didn’t.

The people who had been there for the exact same reasons as I – to have a fun friday night were innocent. This world is cruel. And acts like this are suppose to highlight the depravity of humans and the images of those men circuling us like vultures will haunt me for the rest of my life.

The way they meticoulsy aimed at shot people around the standing area i was in the centre of without any consideration for human life. It didn’t feel real. i expected any moment for someone to say it was just a nightmare. But being a survivor of this horror lets me able to shed light on the heroes. To the man who reassured me and put his life on line to try and cover my brain whilst i whimpered, to the couple whose last words of love kept me believing the good in the world, to the police who succeded in rescuing hundreds of people, to the complete strangers who picked me up from the road and consoled me during the 45 minutes

I truly believed the boy i loved was dead, to the injured man who i had mistaken for him and then on my recognition that he was not Amaury, held me and told me everything was going to be fine despite being all alone and scared himself, to the woman who opened her doors to the survivors, to the friend who offered me shelter and went out to buy new clothes so i wouldnt have to wear this blood stained top, to all of you who have sent caring messages of support – you make me believe this world has the potential to be better. to never let this happen again. but most of this is to the 80 people who were murdered inside that venue, who weren’t as lucky, who didnt get to wake up today and to all the pain that their friends and families are going through.

I am so sorry. There’s nothing that will fix the pain. I feel priviledged to be there for their last breaths. And truly reliving that I would join them, I promise that their last thoughts were not on the animals who caused all this. It was thinking of the people they loved. As i lay down in the blood of strangers and waiting for my bullet to end my mere 22 years, I envisioned every face that I have ever loved and whispered I love you. over and over again. reflecting on the highlights of my life.

Wishing that those i love knew just how much, wishing that they knew that no matter what happened to me, to keep belieivng in the good in people. to not let those men win. Last night, the lives of many were forever changed and it is up to us to be better people. to live lives that the innocent victims of this tragedy dreamt about but sadly will now never be able to fulfil. RIP angels. You will never be forgotten.

      You didn’t ask me 🙂 , but , I’ll reply still .
There are just too many cowards in this world ; too many people who are facades of their true selves . . pretending to be righteous , instead being devils in disguise . . . greedy , self seeking individuals , who use the misguided and misinformed as pawns , in their maniacal quest for power .

    INSPIRATIONAL STORY ( P.U.S.H.)

    P.U.S.H.

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and God appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his strength.
So, day after day, the man pushed and pushed against the rock with ALL his strength. Many years passed, yet the man worked from sunrise to sunset with his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing against it with ALL his might. And each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out. Feeling as if his whole day had been wasted.
When the man began to become discouraged, satan came and started to take advantage of the situation. He began to place thoughts into the mans weary mind by telling him, “You have been pushing against that rock for many years and it hasn’t moved.”
These thoughts gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure. The thoughts really grew heavy on the man and he became discouraged and disheartened.
Satan said, “Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your time, giving just the minimum effort, and that will be good enough.”
At first, the weary man planned on doing just that. But because he loved the Lord so much and didn’t want to disobey Him, the man decided to make it a matter of prayer. He took his troubled thoughts to the Lord.
“Lord,” he said. “I have worked many years and very hard in Your service, putting ALL my strength against that rock as You asked of me. But after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?”
The Lord compassionatly responded, “My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you your task was to push against that rock with ALL your might, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown, your hands are calloused from constant pressure and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition, you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. True, you haven’t moved that rock. But your calling was to be obedient by pushing with ALL your strength and to exercise your faith and trust in MY WISDOM. That you have done. Now I, my friend, will move the rock.”

At times, when we hear a word from God we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants. When actually, what God wants is just a simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains but KNOW that IT IS STILL GOD who moves mountains.
